"The young man? He was a scholar and medic, and the only human who wasn't terrified of Callan. It was a strange thing for us. Humans do not like us; we are monstrous things, revered, but feared. Sinann besides."

[That fish is... just a fish. Kind of hard to fear a beautiful fish.]

"Even the Guardian of the Skies was something to fear. As Guardians, we understand. We expect it. Yet Terho did not have an ounce of fear in his body. It was him who tried to understand Callan, despite the risk of being dragged into the depths and drowned, for the Guardian was injured — Terho sacrificed his wellbeing to ensure Callan was treated and healed, being bitten severely and nearly losing his arm in the process.

Callan grew obsessed with him from then on. It was often that he would metamorphose into something more monstrous — he has a humanoid shape, normally — and through my migrational paths, I would often witness Terho held in Callan's coils. Yet, he seemed happy, and built himself a cabin nearby. It was a pure love, or, that is my interpretation of it. The end comes too soon for you mortals, as I have stated. When Terho grew old and sick, his family brought him back to the Grove, and there he passed some weeks later. It was Sinann, who was closer to their ancestral home, who swam upstream and delivered the news to Callan.

In my millennia as the Forest Guardian, I have heard the wails of those who lost their loved ones countless times — but I have never heard such a grief-stricken noise quite like Callan's that day."
