A demon, a false God, a "creature", a "betrayer" or "trickster"... I've heard it called many things.

The definition of "alive" doesn't matter here, I suppose. People always come back somehow, whether "correctly" or not. But this place is not your own Hell. It is a hellscape, but it used to be a home, a long time ago. ...you would not remember that anyway.
